There are a handful of symptoms you may find your dog suffering from which require consultation, sometimes urgently, sometimes less-so. Being familiar with these, to the point at least where you can recognize a potential problem, is essential to ensuring the health of your dog.
  • Atypical or unusual weight loss - slow weight gain as your dog ages should be expected, just try to pay general attention to their weight, and an atypical shift will be easy to spot.

  • Bleeding from any Orifice - unless your female is unspayed (in which case you should be a breeder, and don't need this website) blood is unusual and should be reason to get in touch with the Vet.

  • Coughing/wheezing or sneezing - an occasional sneeze, much like ourselves, isn't indicative of sickness, but an unusual amount, especially if accompanied with wheezing or coughing, should be looked at more thoroughly.

  • Diarrhea or vomiting

  • Eye/ear/nose fluid discharge - it's important to keep the sleep out of your dogs eyes on a semi-regular basis. It will not only be more comfortable for your pup, but may also let you know if an unusual amount or type of fluid is present in the eye.

  • Fluids - Excessive Drinking - this is a primary example of where being familiar with the basic habits of your pet becomes so important. Excessive drinking may not be easy to spot, especially if they have a source other than their water dish.

  • Fatigue/Lethargy, collapse

  • Gas/Bloating or Swelling

  • Unhealthy Breathing patterns
